Description

An Owner Who Cared — and It Shows

Some boats are maintained. Island Time II has been curated. This 2012 Catalina 355 has been in the hands of an owner who clearly loves sailing — and the results show in every detail, from the Raymarine electronics suite replaced in 2023 to the custom Sunbrella covers protecting nearly every surface on deck. With only 895 hours on the Yanmar diesel, fresh bottom paint and zincs in 2026, and a Doyle furling mainsail installed in 2023, Island Time II is genuinely ready to go sailing.

The Catalina 355 earned Cruising World's Boat of the Year award in the Midsize Cruiser category — a recognition of its exceptional balance of comfort, safety, and ease of handling. This particular example raises that bar further with years of thoughtful upgrades and meticulous care.

What Makes This One Special

Most used boats come with a maintenance backlog. Island Time II comes with a maintenance record. Notable highlights:

  • Full Raymarine electronics suite replaced 2023 — Axiom MFD with Navionics, EV-200 autopilot with p70Rs, three i70 multifunction displays, and VHF
  • Doyle furling mainsail installed 2023 — quality sailmaker, in-mast furling for easy single-handed sailing
  • Running rigging replaced 2024
  • Four Crown 6V batteries (440Ah total) replaced 2023
  • Bottom paint and zincs replaced February 2026 at Sneed Island Marina
  • Oil, filter, and impeller serviced February 2026
  • Hull buffed and waxed twice annually — the topsides show it
  • Canvas stored off the boat 7 months per year, dramatically extending its life in Florida's UV environment — a hallmark of a careful owner
  • Stored on a lift — no sitting in the water, no waterline growth, better hull condition

On Deck

The 355's cockpit is one of its strongest selling points — large, comfortable, and designed for socializing as much as sailing. Contoured coamings, long benches, and raised helm seats give excellent visibility, while the insulated folding cockpit table is the centerpiece for sundowners at anchor. All sail controls are led aft to the cockpit, including the mainsheet traveler system and Lewmar self-tailing winches, making Island Time II genuinely manageable for solo or short-handed crews.

The sugar scoop swim platform with fold-away ladder makes getting in and out of the water effortless. Kato Marine stainless steel davits support the dinghy without requiring removal of the outboard — a practical touch that makes island hopping significantly easier. The extended cockpit shower hose and upgraded shower head are a nice bonus after a swim.

The custom canvas package is exceptional: bimini, dodger, and connector panel work together seamlessly, with matching custom covers for the cabin top, foredeck, traveler, and cockpit table — including a clever table cover with cutouts that hold drinks securely while underway.

Built-In Safety — The StrikeZone

One of the Catalina 355's most distinctive features is the StrikeZone collision bulkhead — a watertight compartment forward of the anchor locker, filled with high-density foam, designed to absorb impact in a collision. It's a thoughtful engineering feature that sets this model apart from most boats in its class and gives coastal cruisers genuine peace of mind.

Below Decks

Step below and the 355's reputation for livability becomes immediately clear. With 6'4" of headroom, a teak and holly sole throughout, and solid hardwood trim, the interior feels warm, substantial, and well-finished. Two cedar-lined clothes lockers add a practical touch that longer-term cruisers will appreciate.

The two-cabin layout offers a forward V-berth cabin and a private aft cabin with a queen-size athwartship berth — an unusually comfortable sleeping arrangement for a 35-footer. The salon features a convertible dinette to starboard and a port-side settee that converts to either a berth or cocktail table, giving the space real flexibility.

The forward V-berth benefits from Catalina's articulating inner-spring mattress, which can be electrically raised for reading — a small luxury that makes a real difference on overnight passages. The single head is to port of the companionway stairs, with a separate shower stall.

The galley is well thought out: two-burner propane stove and oven, a unique combination of top-loading and front-loading refrigeration, twin-basin stainless steel sink, and an 11-gallon water heater. Three large water tanks (101 gallons total) are removable through the companionway for servicing — a practical detail that speaks to Catalina's thoughtful design.

Climate control is handled by a Marvair reverse cycle air conditioning unit (16,000 BTU) and four Hella turbo fans — essential for comfortable living aboard in Florida's heat.

Electronics & Navigation

  • Raymarine Axiom MFD with Navionics (2023)
  • Raymarine EV-200 PowerPilot with p70Rs cockpit display (2023)
  • Three Raymarine i70 multifunction displays — speed, depth, wind (2023)
  • Raymarine VHF (2023)
  • Pedestal-mounted binnacle compass
  • TV above nav station
  • 1,800W inverter/charger
  • Galvanic isolator (Pro Mariner)

Sail Plan & Rigging

Island Time II is set up for easy, confident sailing. The in-mast furling mainsail (Doyle, 2023) and 135% furling genoa mean sail handling is quick and manageable from the cockpit. Eight clutches on the housetop and Lewmar self-tailing winches at both primary and halyard positions keep things organized and accessible. Running rigging was replaced in 2024, and the split backstay provides a clean, unobstructed stern.

Mechanical

The Yanmar 3YM30AE 29HP diesel has just 892 hours — genuinely low for a 2012 boat, and a testament to how much time Island Time II has spent sailing rather than motoring. Three-blade bronze propeller, electric and manual bilge pumps, and an 11-gallon water heater round out the mechanical package. Engine service is current: Impeller, oil and filter changed February 2026.
