About Benetti
Benetti was founded in 1873 when Lorenzo Benetti bought the Darsena Lucca shipyard at Viareggio. It is one of the oldest yards in continuous production anywhere, now part of the Azimut Benetti Group, building at Viareggio, Livorno and Fano. Custom yachts are steel and aluminum; the series ranges (Tradition, Class, Vision) are fiberglass.
For a buyer this is two different markets under one name. The fiberglass series boats from roughly 90 to 145 feet are semi-production yachts with known layouts and a real brokerage market behind them. The steel and aluminum customs above that are one-offs, valued on their refit history and their build specification rather than on comparables, and they need a surveyor who works on ships.
What we know about Benetti
Benetti are one of the world's premier superyacht builders, with heritage going back to 1873, iconic Italian styling and a routine place at the top of the global order book. Part of the Azimut Benetti group.
Opinions on them vary with who you ask, and that is worth saying rather than smoothing over. They build at a scale no boutique yard approaches, and an owner, a broker and a charter captain will each tell you something different about what that means.
On design they have genuinely moved the industry. The Oasis series, 34 metres to 50 and beyond, and the Oasis deck in particular: aft decks brought down closer to the water, fold out wings, and flush infinity pools, so the line between the inside of the boat and the sea stops existing. Everyone has been copying it since.
They are also properly ocean going, which not every builder at this end is. Deep draft, heavy displacement hulls, steel and aluminium at the larger sizes, built for transoceanic range rather than for a fast weekend. The bigger semi custom and custom boats will cross the Atlantic without drama.
That combination is why they hold value and why the charter fleet is full of them: the volume and the finish are what a charter client expects to find. And although the series platforms exist to keep delivery times honest, there is real leeway on layout, materials and propulsion for an owner who wants it.
