About Concept
Concept is a Miami builder in the truest sense: started in 1986 by Luis Avila and his wife Belkys, Cuban immigrants who began with a 17 foot single engine ski boat, and still run by them from Opa-locka with their son Eric as vice president. The company builds fast outboard center consoles and nothing else. The range has moved steadily upward, from boats in the 20s to a line that now covers roughly 27 to 53 feet in classic and luxury versions, with Mercury Racing power at the top end: the 4400 Sport Cabin has been delivered with five 500R outboards for 2,500 horsepower, the 5300 flagship arrived as the first 53 footer the yard has built, and a 40 foot catamaran, its first, was due at the end of 2026.
Buying used, treat each boat as a one off rather than a model year. This is a small yard that builds to order, so two 39s of the same year can differ in layout, seating, hardtop, tankage and above all in rigging, and the engine package can be half the value of the boat. Look first at the outboards: high output Mercury Racing motors are expensive to service and more expensive to rebuild, so hours, service history and whether they have been run on the right fuel matter more than anything cosmetic. Then the fuel system, the steering and controls on multi engine setups, the hardtop and its mounting, and any evidence of hard offshore use. The market is largely South Florida and largely word of mouth, with repeat owners who trade up inside the brand, which keeps good boats moving quickly and makes local comparables the only ones worth much. The factory is still there and still in the family, so unlike most boats in this niche you can send it back to the people who built it.
