Doral Yachts for Sale

Doral grew out of the Cadorette family's boatbuilding business on the St Lawrence, and took the Doral name in 1972 under Moïse Cadorette. New owners moved production to Grand-Mère, Quebec in 1989, and through the 1990s and 2000s the company traded as Doral International, selling in more than 25 countries and pitching itself as European looking styling at North American prices. The range ran from small runabouts up through express cruisers and on to the Mediterra and Alegria sport yachts, with model names, Prestancia, Elegante, Intrigue, Boca Grande, Venezia, Monticello, that still turn up on the brokerage market.

The financial crisis finished the company. Doral went into bankruptcy in 2010, Denis Poliseno bought the assets and restarted it with a provincial loan, and it filed again in May 2012 and did not come back. For an American buyer that means no factory and no warranty: gelcoat, glass, canvas and trim pieces come from the used market or a good fabricator. The mechanical side is easier than most orphaned brands, because Doral built with Volvo Penta and MerCruiser power that any Florida yard services, and because a Canadian boat is a North American boat. The wiring is 120 volt 60 hertz, the electronics are the same ones sold here, and any Doral that has been in the United States for years has long since cleared customs. Survey the stringers and the fuel tank supports as you would on any cruiser of that age, and buy on condition, because the badge carries no support with it.
