About Excess
Groupe Beneteau launched Excess at Cannes in September 2018 as the sporting counterpart to Lagoon, and the first boats, the 12 and the 15, followed in 2019. The range today runs from 11 to 14 meters: the Excess 11, 13 and 14, with Riders' Edition rigs for owners who want more sail area. All of them are built at the group's Le Poiré sur Vie plant in the Vendée, balsa cored, out of a four part hull mold, by the same people who build Lagoons.
This is about as easy as a French boat gets for an American owner. Beneteau has one of the deepest dealer and parts networks in the country, so warranty work, spares and resale are normal transactions rather than projects. A boat delivered new to a US dealer is in American specification, 120 volt 60 hertz, with duty cleared at entry. The ones to look at carefully are ex charter boats coming back from the Caribbean or the Mediterranean: European specification means 230 volt 50 hertz and a converter, and a boat that never entered the country still owes duty.
