About Four Winns
Four Winns began in 1975 when Bill Winn Sr. and his sons John, Charlie and Bill Jr. bought Saf-T-Mate, an old boat plant in Cadillac, Michigan, and renamed it for themselves. The family sold to Outboard Marine Corporation in 1987, and the brand then followed the wreckage of the American volume boat industry: Genmar in 2000, Platinum Equity's Rec Boat Holdings in 2010, Groupe Beneteau in 2014.
In June 2026 Beneteau said it would stop production at Cadillac in the third quarter and sell the site along with the Four Winns, Glastron and Scarab Jet brands, blaming years of decline in bowriders and jet boats. No buyer had been named. That matters less to a used buyer than it sounds: Beneteau committed to maintaining after sales service and spare parts until the sale completes, and there are tens of thousands of Four Winns out there, so wear items are easy to find. Survey the transom and stringers on anything from the 1990s.
