Hunt Yachts for Sale

Hunt Yachts was founded in Massachusetts in 1998 to put C. Raymond Hunt Associates designs into production, and it started at Padanaram in South Dartmouth before moving in August 2006 to a 24,000 square foot shop at the Melville Marine Complex in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, on the back of three years of very fast growth under president Peter Van Lancker. Those Rhode Island years produced the boats most buyers mean by a Hunt: Surfhunters at 25, 29 and 33 feet and Harriers at 25, 31 and 36. Scout Partners, the owner of Hinckley, bought Hunt in September 2013 and ran the two separately while sharing service and parts. In March 2026 DiMillo's Yacht Sales of Portland, Maine bought key Hunt assets from Hinckley and took an exclusive license from Ray Hunt Design to keep building under the name Hunt Yachts by DiMillo's.

Two quite different boats trade under this name and a buyer should separate them before anything else. The smaller Surfhunters, Harriers and center consoles are American boats, laid up in Rhode Island, and they are bought for the ride: a true deep V takes a chop better than almost anything its length, at the cost of fuel and of a boat that wants to be driven rather than idled. The Ocean Series, 56 to 76 feet in flybridge and express forms, has been built by Global Yacht Builders in Taiwan since 2008 to Hunt designs, which is not a criticism of the boats but is a fact worth knowing and worth reflecting in the price you pay and the surveyor you appoint. Because the company has changed hands twice since 2013, do not assume any factory warranty followed the boat: get written confirmation from DiMillo's of what is covered, and check parts availability for hull and hardware specific items, which used to come through the Hinckley service yards. Otherwise survey as you would any inboard or pod driven composite cruiser: coring and bedding, stringers and engine beds, the drives, and the age of the electronics.
