About Jeanneau
Henri Jeanneau, a hardware store owner, founded the company in 1957 in Les Herbiers, in France's Vendée region, starting with small outboard powerboats. He had moved to fiberglass by 1960 and began building sailboats in 1964. After periods under the American conglomerate Bangor Punta and later French owners, Jeanneau was bought by Groupe Beneteau in 1995 and now sits in the same group as Beneteau and Lagoon.
The Sun Odyssey cruisers are Jeanneau's main sailboat line, and the Sun Fast models are aimed at performance sailing. The power range includes Merry Fisher and Cap Camarat outboard boats, NC cruisers and the Leader sport cruisers. As with other French production sailboats, some used Sun Odysseys have been in charter, so ask about a boat's past use and review its maintenance records before making an offer.
