About Jupiter
Jupiter started in 1989 at Jupiter, Florida, where the racer Nick Scafidi, a member of the American Power Boat Association Hall of Champions, and the fiberglass craftsman Joe Moran built the Jupiter 31 as a semi custom performance center console. Carl Herndon bought the company in 1997 and brought Blackfin and Bertram experience to it. The plant is now at Palmetto on Florida's Gulf coast and the fleet runs from 26 to 43 feet.
Jupiter has built one kind of boat for more than 30 years, which makes the brokerage fleet unusually easy to read: a 20 year old hull is recognizably the same boat as a current one, so comparables are straightforward and resale is predictable. Hulls are vacuum infused over foam coring with 24 degrees of deadrise aft and a stern pad for lift. Almost every boat is Yamaha powered, so the outboards are the first thing to survey. On a boat of this type the engines carry most of the value and the hull usually outlives two sets of them.
