About Kadey-Krogen
Kadey-Krogen was founded in 1977 at Stuart by Art Kadey, a marine engineer, and Jim Krogen, a naval architect. They set out to build a full-displacement cruising boat with the sea-keeping of a North Sea trawler and the interior of a proper liveaboard, and the Krogen 42 that resulted became the model the rest of the range was judged against.
The company filed for Chapter 7 in July 2026 and ceased operations after nearly fifty years, so everything on the market now is brokerage. That matters less on these boats than it would on most: they were built to cross oceans, close to 700 of them exist, and the owner community around them is unusually well organised. Buy on survey and on records, as always, and expect a boat that has been looked after by somebody who intended to keep her.
