About Marlow
Marlow was founded in 2000 by David Marlow, who had been sketching the boats since the mid-1990s. The company is based at Snead Island in Palmetto, Florida, with construction in Xiamen, and builds long-range explorer and pilothouse yachts from 49 to around 100 feet.
The reputation is for construction rather than styling: heavily engineered composite hulls with Kevlar and carbon reinforcement, built to cross oceans and to be surveyed hard without embarrassment. Owners tend to keep them a long time, which means the used ones come with thick records, and on this kind of boat the records are most of what you are buying.
What we know about Marlow
Marlow build high performance semi displacement motor yachts and long range cruisers, and the distinction in that sentence is the whole decision.
A true displacement trawler, a Nordhavn or a Fleming, trades speed for range and sea keeping. A Marlow does not: their strut keel technology and semi displacement hull will cruise at 18 to 23 knots and more. If you want to cross oceans slowly, look at the trawlers. If you want to cruise a long way and still get somewhere this afternoon, this is the boat, and that is the question to answer before you look at a single listing.
The construction supports it. Advanced composite with Kevlar reinforced fibreglass and resin infusion, so the hull is stronger and lighter than solid glass or steel, and certain models carry Lloyd's Class A ocean certification, which is not a thing a yard claims casually.
Owners talk about the handling: agile and responsive on the helm, smooth coastal and offshore, and a shallow enough draft to get into anchorages a deeper boat has to look at from outside.
