About Nordhavn
Jim Leishman and Dan Streech met at a Dana Point yacht dealership in 1973 and, when it closed the following year, started their own brokerage with Joe Meglen. That became Pacific Asian Enterprises, importing CT boats from Taiwan and then the Transpac 49: thirty-five of those over eight years. Then Jeff Leishman drew a 46-foot motor yacht influenced by North Sea trawlers, and in 1989 the first Nordhavn was built.
Everything about a Nordhavn follows from one question: can she cross an ocean? Full displacement, enormous fuel capacity, a get-home engine, watertight compartments, paravane stabilizers, and systems a competent owner can service at sea. Nordhavns have circumnavigated, crossed the Atlantic and the Pacific, and gone to both poles, not as stunts by the factory but as ordinary owner voyages. The same three men still run the company. On the used market they are expensive for their length and worth it; the survey should read the maintenance log as carefully as the hull.

- The first was the N46 of 1989. In 2004 a 40-foot Nordhavn crossed the Atlantic under her own power on a schedule: the boats are built to actually do it, not to look as though they could.
