About Overmarine
Overmarine is the company, Mangusta is the brand, and the two names are used interchangeably in brokerage listings, so search both. Giuseppe Balducci founded Overmarine at Viareggio in 1985 on a family business whose roots go back to the 1950s, and the Mangusta 80 that followed in 1990 created the Maxi Open: a big fast open boat with no flybridge and the whole deck given over to being outside. The Mangusta 165 took the idea past 50 meters in 2007. The Oceano line of full displacement superyachts started in 2016 with the 42 meter Namasté, and the GranSport line sits between the two. The group works out of ten facilities across Viareggio, Massarosa, Massa and Pisa, with around 200 direct employees, and the Pisa plant doubled to 44,000 square meters in 2024. The range spans roughly 22 to 65 meters and the family is now in its third generation.
Used, these are large, fast, heavily built yachts with real complexity behind the styling, so the survey is a systems survey as much as a hull one. The Maxi Opens are planing boats with serious installed power and the propulsion package, whether shafts or waterjets, should be looked at by someone who works on that specific system rather than a generalist. For an American owner Overmarine is better placed than most Italian yards: it keeps its own office in Miami Beach and a waterfront facility at Viareggio dedicated to after sales, so there is a factory route for parts rather than only a dealer. Assume a European delivery until proven otherwise, which means 230 volt 50 hertz, CE and often MCA compliance for charter, and price the conversion or the adapters honestly. Ask for the United States customs entry and the duty paperwork on any boat that crossed recently, and for a charter boat ask what the flag state will require to keep the certification alive after the sale.
