About Pershing
Pershing was founded in 1985 and bought by the Ferretti Group in 1998. The yard builds sport yachts from roughly 16 to 43 meters in fiberglass and composite, and has always sold on speed: the range is engineered around surface drives and water jets, with top speeds quoted up to 50 knots.
A Pershing is a specific proposition rather than a general-purpose motor yacht. The low, closed profile and the drive packages that make her fast are the same things that make her a boat to survey carefully: ask about drive and jet service history, and about hours at the top of the rev range. Bought right, nothing else in the class covers water the way she does.
What we know about Pershing
Pershing are high performance Italian sport yachts, aggressive and luxurious in equal measure, with the exterior drawn by Fulvio de Simoni. Sleek, muscular profiles, big glass salon enclosures, and lines that stand out in any marina, which is at least half the point of owning one.
They are built for speed and they deliver it. A 6X or a 7X cruises comfortably at 37 to 42 knots and tops out near 45 to 50.
The traditional performance boats do it on surface drives, the Top System, behind large MAN or MTU engines, and the ride at speed feels locked in rather than skittish. Surface drives are a specialist installation though, so ask who has been maintaining them and who will be, before you ask anything about the interior.
The newer GTX boats, the GTX70 among them, answer that directly. Volvo Penta IPS pods and carbon fibre construction, which makes the boat easier to handle and buys back liveaboard space. If the performance is what you want and the surface drives are what worries you, that is the line to look at.
