About Pro-Line
Pro-Line began in 1968 when Dan Atwood and his father Ray started building fishing boats for guides on Florida's Nature Coast, and it grew into one of the higher volume saltwater builders in the country. It added a 24 foot cuddy in 1973, its first deep V in 1979 and the walkaround cabin series in 1981, by which time it was building up to 30 feet. From 1992 it sat inside American Marine Holdings alongside Donzi. In 2010 it closed the Florida plant and moved to Washington, North Carolina. Iconic Marine Group bought the group in spring 2016 and sold Pro-Line that December to the Wortley family, a former partner, in exchange for their shares, and the family has run it as a separate company since.
Almost every Pro-Line on the brokerage market is a Florida built boat from the 1980s to the 2000s: walkarounds, express cabin boats and center consoles bought to fish, priced below the premium brands when they were new and priced that way still. They are honest working boats rather than showpieces, which makes the survey the whole transaction. Transom and stringer moisture, deck core, the fuel tank and the age of the rigging matter far more than how the gelcoat looks, and a soft transom is common enough on older hulls that it belongs at the top of the list. Current production is a short line of Sport and Express outboard models built in North Carolina with a live dealer network behind it. Nobody at that yard is obliged to support a boat built in Florida twenty years ago, so budget for a pre 2010 Pro-Line as a boat you maintain yourself.
