Ranger Tugs Yachts for Sale

The company goes back to 1958, when Howard Smith started the Ranger Fiberglass Boat Company building fiberglass sailboats at Kent, Washington. Dave Livingston, who had designed the Livingston dinghy and worked with Bayliner and Regal, bought the business with his son John and John's wife Jennifer in 1998 and launched Ranger Tugs soon after with the R-21 diesel launch. The R-25 followed in the early 2000s and defined the category. Cutwater came in 2011 and Solara in the early 2020s, all under the parent company Fluid Motion, which Correct Craft acquired in July 2026 while saying the brands, the people and the Monroe headquarters would stay as they are. The line today is nine models, the R-23 through the R-43.

Two things shape the used market. First, the smaller boats trailer, so the buyer pool is national rather than local and the boat you want is often several states away: prices hold up accordingly, and the trailer deserves as close a look as the hull. Second, a Ranger is a small boat carrying a great many systems, so on a used one the systems are what you are really buying. Check the hours and the service history on the single diesel, find out how much of the electronics is original, and run every pump, thruster and heater before closing. They suit an owner who wants to cruise two or three different regions in a season rather than keep a boat in one marina, and who is happy in a compact cabin to get that.
