The yard started at Haliç in Istanbul in 1974, moved to Tuzla in 1984 and was bought by Koç Holding in 1997, which is why the initials are those of Rahmi M. Koç. It is a real shipyard rather than a boat factory: tankers, tugs, offshore vessels and search and rescue craft for the Turkish Coast Guard come off the same site, and the yacht side has always been custom. The delivered fleet is short and each boat has a name rather than a model number: JASMIN and PRIVATE LIVES in 2003, CARESSA K in 2005, CORNELIA in 2006, the 30 meter sailing yacht SARAFIN and the 52 meter NAZENIN V in 2009, KARIA in 2011, PENELOPE in 2012, TWILIGHT in 2013, the KEYLA rebuild in 2014 and SEVEN SEAS in 2023. A 65 meter, SOLAS MÓR, is in build, and the company has begun offering series platforms it calls PETRA and LIVIA.

Buying one of these second hand is buying a one off, so the model name tells you almost nothing and the build specification, the classification society records and the refit history tell you everything. The good news is that the yard is still there, still owned by one of the largest industrial groups in Turkey, and runs a dedicated refit division, so warranty questions and spares have somewhere to go, which is more than can be said for most yards that built four or five yachts a decade ago. For an American owner the things to settle are the same ones that apply to any Mediterranean built yacht of this size. It will have been built to European practice and to class, which normally means 230V 50Hz ship's service with converters rather than American shore power, so budget for how it will plug in here. Most yachts at 30 to 50 meters trade under a foreign flag and have never been formally imported into the United States, which means duty and a cruising permit are part of the transaction rather than an afterthought, and chartering in American waters is not open to a foreign flagged yacht. Settle all of that with a marine attorney before the survey, not after. RMK's Miami office, opened in 2026, makes the support conversation easier than it used to be.
