About Rybovich
John Rybovich Sr was a fisherman who opened a boatyard on Lake Worth in West Palm Beach in the late 1920s, repairing and refitting. After the war his three sons - Tommy, Johnny and Emil - started building, and in 1947 they launched Miss Chevy II, a 34-foot custom sportfisherman that carried the first aluminium outriggers and a fighting chair of their own design. In 1952 Miss Chevy IV brought the broken sheer line and the first aluminium tuna tower. Almost every convertible built since is descended from those boats.
From the late 1950s the hulls were cold-molded, and that is still what the name means. Rybovich no longer builds production boats - the West Palm Beach site is a superyacht marina and refit yard, and Michael Rybovich & Sons carries the family boatbuilding on separately. A Rybovich on the market is a piece of the sport's history, and buying one is a decision about wooden-boat ownership as much as about a boat: find a surveyor who knows cold-molded construction, and take their advice seriously.
