Sea Hunt was founded in 1995 by a father and son, Vic and Bubba Roof, in a small shop outside Columbia, South Carolina, on a plain idea: a well finished saltwater fishing boat at a price ordinary families could reach. It worked. Within about a decade Sea Hunt was one of the highest volume saltwater brands in the United States, and it is still privately owned and family run from South Carolina. The line is organized into four groups: Ultra center consoles for families, Gamefish center consoles for fishing, BX bay boats for inshore and nearshore work, and Escape dual consoles. Sizes run from roughly 21 feet to about 30.

That volume is the reason to look at them second hand. A brand that sells in these numbers leaves a deep trail of comparable sales, so pricing a used Sea Hunt is straightforward in a way that pricing a low production boat never is, and the dealer network means parts, canvas, upholstery and matching gelcoat are easy to get for boats well out of warranty. They are outboard boats, and on an outboard boat the hull normally outlives two sets of engines: engine hours, service records and the remaining factory engine warranty will move the number more than the hull does, so confirm in writing what transfers to you. Check the deck hardware bedding, the livewell and baitwell plumbing, the fuel tank and sender, and whether the electronics are the original ones or a later refit. They suit a family that fishes rather than a tournament program, and they are usually bought and sold on condition, not on rarity.
