About Sea Ray
Sea Ray was started in 1959 by C.N. "Connie" Ray as Ray Industries in Detroit, with its fiberglass boats built at a plant in Oxford, Michigan. The company expanded through the 1970s with factories in Florida and Tennessee, and in 1986 it was bought by Brunswick Corporation, which still owns it. Sea Ray is headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Today the brand concentrates on bowriders, sport boats and Sundancer express cruisers of roughly 40 feet and under. That focus is fairly recent: in 2018 Brunswick announced that Sea Ray would stop building its larger sport yachts and motor yachts, so any Sea Ray of that size on the brokerage market is an earlier model. Because Sea Ray has built boats in large numbers for decades, buyers can usually compare several examples of the same model and year before choosing one.
