About Sealine
There are two Sealines on the brokerage market and it matters which one you are looking at. The British company began as Fibrasonic Marine in 1972 near Bobbington in Staffordshire, moved to Kidderminster in 1978, took the Sealine name in 1979 and spent thirty years as one of Britain's four big production motorboat builders. It was sold to venture capital in 1998, to Brunswick in 2001 and to Oxford Investment Group in 2011, went into administration in April 2013 and closed Kidderminster with about 300 jobs. Aurelius, the owner of HanseYachts, bought the brand out of the receivership that year, and production restarted in 2014 at the Hanse group's yard in Greifswald in northeast Germany, with new boats drawn by Bill Dixon in the S, C and F series.
A Kidderminster boat, anything up to about 2013, is a British built cruiser of its period: good interior volume for the length, a following that knows them well, and the usual list for a twenty year old fiberglass sport cruiser, which is deck core, window and hatch bedding, sterndrive bellows and transom shields, and the age of the fuel and water systems. A Greifswald boat, 2014 onward, is a German built boat on a British design and is generally better finished. For an American buyer either one is an import. Sealine has no meaningful United States dealer network, spares come from Germany, and unless the boat was specified for this market it will be 230 volts at 50 hertz with European shore power, so budget for an isolation transformer or a conversion and confirm the duty was paid on entry. Get the CE certification plate and the import paperwork with the survey: on a European boat that file is worth as much as the engine hours.
