About SeaVee
SeaVee was started in Miami in 1974 by Captain Don McGee, building center consoles stiff enough for the run out to the Gulf Stream and back in a chop. In the 1970s the yard put the engines below the console, which gave an open fishing boat inboard power and a low center of gravity. Ariel Pared bought the company with two partners in 1993 and it is still privately held and still built in Miami, now from about 27 to 45 feet across the deep V B Series and the stepped Z Series.
The factory direct model is the thing to understand before you buy used. A SeaVee was configured by its original owner, so two boats of the same length and year can differ in power, tower, livewell plumbing, electronics and seating to a degree you rarely see in a production boat. Read the original build sheet rather than the model name, and price the rigging separately from the hull. These are tournament tools that hold value well, which also means a cheap one usually has a reason.
