About Strike

Strike is a genuine builder and not a category, which is worth saying because the name reads like one. It began in 1977 as the small boat arm of Striker, the Fort Lauderdale yard famous for welded aluminum sportfishermen, and it has been a South Florida company ever since, based latterly at Deerfield Beach under Kenny and Roxanne Willmer, who bought it in 1992. The range ran roughly 26 to 51 feet in express, open and walkaround layouts, and the signature of the brand is that almost everything is diesel inboard. A 26 foot center console with a pair of Cummins under the deck is an unusual animal, and that is precisely the point: low fuel burn, long range and an engine that will run for thousands of hours.

Buy one as a semi custom boat, because that is what it is. The yard built to order, a few boats at a time, and no two leave alike, so compare the boat in front of you rather than the model. The bottoms on later hulls are vacuum bagged Core-Cell foam with Kevlar and vinylester resin, which makes them light for their length and fast on modest power, and the 35 alone was offered as a cuddy, an open bow deck and an express, with single or twin diesels, triple outboards or twin diesels on Hamilton jets. That means a survey has to establish what this hull actually got. Check the engine beds and stringers around inboard installations, the fuel tanks, the steering and the shaft log, and on any boat advertised as rebuilt, ask what was replaced and by whom, since several Strikes on the market are old hulls with new everything. Parts and support are the weak point. This is a tiny yard whose website domain is now offered for sale, so assume you are on your own for anything factory specific and choose a South Florida yard that already knows the boats. What you get in exchange is a diesel fishing boat that costs very little to run and holds its value with the people who understand it.
