About Viking
Viking Yacht Company dates to April 1, 1964, when brothers Bill and Bob Healey, who owned a marina on the Bass River in New Gretna, New Jersey, bought a struggling neighbor that built 37-foot wooden sportfishing boats. Viking moved to fiberglass in the early 1970s and has stayed in the Healey family as it grew from a small boat shop into a large riverside plant, later adding a second yard nearby.
Viking is best known for sportfishing convertibles, along with enclosed-bridge and open express versions. Construction today uses resin infusion. On the used market, buyers will find Vikings from the 1970s through recent model years. Beyond the usual survey, the main things to weigh are engine hours, tower and electronics upgrades, and how hard the boat has been fished.
