Weaver Yachts for Sale

Weaver is a family yard on Rockhold Creek at Deale, Maryland, and it builds single boats to order rather than models off a line. Jim Weaver grew up in Prince George's County, apprenticed as a union carpenter and fished tournaments, and in the late 1990s he asked himself whether a custom boat really cost a million dollars. He built one to find out. It took fifteen months and about a million dollars, he sold her, a second followed, and the orders never stopped. Donald Blount and Associates now draws the hulls and Belkov Yacht Company does the interiors.

Every Weaver is cold molded, which on these boats is the whole question: okoume marine plywood and epoxy with Kevlar cloth, laid over wooden frames on laminated Douglas fir stringers, sheer clamps and battens, then encapsulated in epoxy and glass. Built that way a hull is light, strong and stiff, and it is also entirely dependent on how well it was done and how it has been kept dry since. The range runs from a 43 foot single engine Chesapeake bay boat up to big game convertibles in the 75 to 97 foot class. Get a surveyor who knows cold molded hulls and who knows Weaver's work, and ask the yard: it is still open, still family run, and it knows every boat it has built.
