Wellcraft Yachts for Sale

Wellcraft was founded in 1955 at Sarasota, Florida by Bill Davis and Ed Krafton, building wooden runabouts of 12 to 17 feet before moving to fiberglass in the early 1960s. The Scarab performance line arrived in 1975 and made the name famous. Through the 1980s and 1990s Wellcraft turned out sport boats, cuddy cabins, express cruisers and the Coastal fishing range in very large numbers. Platinum Equity bought the company in 2010 and Groupe Beneteau has owned it since 2014.

Today's Wellcraft is a narrower brand: Fisherman center consoles of roughly 20 to 30 feet and the larger T Top and Explorer cruisers. That matters used, because most Wellcrafts on the market come from the older, higher volume era, when the boats were sold on value rather than on finish. Parts for a 1980s or 1990s hull come from the aftermarket rather than the factory, and stringers, transoms and fuel tanks are where a survey should start. In June 2026 Beneteau said it would close its Cadillac, Michigan plant and sell three other American brands while keeping Wellcraft, so ask where a given new model is actually built.
