About World Cat
World Cat traces back to Glacier Bay in the Pacific Northwest in the mid-1990s and launched under its own name in 1998 at Greenville, North Carolina, with three boats: the 246 SF, the 266 SC and the 266 SF. Production moved to Tarboro, into a 140,000 square foot plant, and the company is now the largest power-catamaran builder anywhere. It bought Glacier Bay and Livingston in 2009.
The argument for a catamaran offshore is simple and it is about the ride: two narrow hulls cut a head sea instead of pounding across it, the boat stays level in a turn and at rest, and fuel burn at cruise is lower than a comparable V-bottom's. The trade is dock space and a different feel at the helm. The range runs from about 23 to 40 feet, and the 400DC-X and 400CC-X of 2019 are the flagships. Popular in Florida and the Gulf for exactly the reasons above.
