Cobalt Yachts for Sale

Pack St. Clair founded Cobalt in 1968 and the company settled at Neodesha, Kansas, a long way from any ocean, where it built a reputation through the 1970s and 1980s for runabouts finished to a standard the rest of the market did not bother with. The range has stayed in the same territory ever since, roughly 19 to 40 feet of bowriders, sterndrive and outboard runabouts, surf boats and small cruisers, now sold as the R, CS and A series. Malibu Boats acquired the company in 2017, left it at Neodesha under its own leadership and brand, and a second plant opened in Tennessee in 2024.

On the used market a Cobalt is bought for its finish and its hardware rather than for anything exotic: hulls are Kevlar reinforced, the joinery and upholstery are a class above the volume bowriders, and buyer satisfaction surveys put the brand at or near the top of its categories for years. Expect to pay more than for an equivalent Sea Ray or Regal of the same age. Most are sterndrives, so the survey goes to the drive rather than the hull: bellows, gimbal bearing, transom assembly and the engine's hours. Ask whether the boat lived in fresh or salt water, since a great many Cobalts have spent their lives on lakes and those are the ones worth finding, and price in new canvas and upholstery if the originals are tired.
