Conch began as one very specific boat. In the late 1980s Edey and Duff, a Massachusetts sailboat builder, brought Key West guides and a naval architect together to draw an offshore outboard fishing boat that would keep its feet in a sea and still stand still enough to fish from, and the result, the Conch 27, became the reference point for the brand. R&R Boatworks bought the Edey and Duff assets in 2005 and has built Conch at Stuart, Florida since, widening the line considerably: an 18 foot skiff, a 25 that crosses a bay boat with a center console, the original 27 brought up to date, a 30, a 33 and a 41 foot flagship, with the 25 arriving in 2021 and the 18 and 41 in 2022. The yard brought engineering in house as well, with a five axis CNC router, a 3D scanner and its own design arm cutting cores and building molds.

These are low volume boats, so expect thin supply and wide variation: what shows up on the market in any given month is a handful of hulls, and condition and rigging will move the price more than the year does. The dividing line is 2005. An early Conch is effectively an orphan in factory terms, and after thirty years it will have been repowered more than once, so check the transom and its engine bracket or bolt pattern, the stringers, the fuel tank and the rigging tubes before you get excited about the hull. The unusual comfort here is that the people who own the brand today are building that same hull in Stuart, so unlike most defunct name situations there is a yard that knows the boat and can quote parts and work. On anything newer you are buying current production with a factory to call, and on any outboard boat the engines and their service history will decide the number.
