About Donzi
Donzi was founded in Miami in 1964 by the offshore racer Don Aronow with Jim Wynne and Walt Walters, and the first boat was a 16 foot deep V everyone called the Sweet 16. Aronow sold to Teleflex within a couple of years and went off to start Magnum. The brand then passed through a long chain of owners: two former Teleflex executives, Jack Staples and the former Chris-Craft president Dick Genth in 1985, OMC, American Marine Holdings, and private investors in 2009. Since 2016 it has belonged to Iconic Marine Group.
Two different things are sold as Donzi. Donzi Marine, the line above, is small to mid size performance boats and center consoles, and is currently dormant, though a relaunch is talked about. Roscioli Donzi is a separate Fort Lauderdale company that bought the rights to the name and builds sportfishing convertibles of 58 to 80 feet. The classic 16, 18 and 22 trade on originality and hold collector money, while the later boats trade on engine condition. With the brand dormant, parts come from the owner community.
