About Edgewater
Bob Dougherty spent his career as director of engineering at Boston Whaler, the company whose whole identity is a boat that will not sink, and left in 1992 to do it better. The first EdgeWater, an 18-foot center console, was built in a garage in Edgewater, Florida, using the PermaGrid structure he had devised.
What came out of that is Single Piece Infusion: hull, liner and stringer grid infused as one piece, then foam filled, so there is no seam to work loose and nothing to take on water. It is a genuinely different way of building a small boat and it is why an EdgeWater feels solid underfoot in a way most production center consoles do not. The Swedish Nimbus Group bought the company, and it still builds at Edgewater. On the used market they age unusually well, which is the whole point of the construction.
