About Hunter
Hunter Marine was founded in 1973 by Warren Luhrs in Alachua, Florida, and its first boat was a 25-foot sloop. It grew into a high-volume sailboat builder, producing everything from small daysailers to larger cruising boats, and at its peak the Alachua plant built around 1,400 sailboats a year. After a 2012 bankruptcy, David Marlow of Marlow Yachts bought the sailboat line, and the company carried on as Marlow-Hunter.
Marlow-Hunter kept a reduced lineup in production for several years, but building effectively ended around 2021, when the Alachua plant was sold to pontoon builder A&M Manufacturing. Hunters are common on the brokerage market, usually as coastal cruisers, and many models have the B&R rig and a cockpit arch that carries the mainsheet. As with any older production sailboat, buyers should have the rig, chainplates and deck hardware inspected.
