About Intrepid
Intrepid Powerboats was founded in South Florida in 1983 and entered the market with a 30-foot open boat built on a composite hull with no wood in its core. The company became known for building boats to each owner's specification rather than from a fixed options list. MarineMax, the boat retailer, bought Intrepid in November 2021, and the company now lists its factory in Largo, Florida, with a sales center in Dania Beach.
Intrepid builds center consoles and cabin models, organized into the Valor, Evolution, Nomad and Panacea series, using resin-infused, stepped hulls. Because Intrepid builds to order, two used boats of the same model can differ a great deal in layout, electronics and power. Buyers should compare specifications item by item rather than relying on the model name alone.
What we know about Intrepid
Intrepid holds a stellar reputation as a top tier semi custom builder, often called the Lexus of the boating world. Innovative stepped hull performance, elite fit and finish, and an exceptional dry ride. The niche they carved out is a premium multi use day boat, a comfortable family cruiser, and the gold standard for a megayacht tender.
The stepped hulls are what owners talk about: efficient, fast and remarkably dry, cutting through an ocean chop while holding a level running attitude.
The trade is worth understanding before you buy one. They are lighter and faster than a traditional heavy deep V such as a Pursuit or a Grady White. In a big head sea a heavier boat may plough through more comfortably. The Intrepid wins on agility and on speed, and which of those you want depends on how and where you run her.
Four have been sold through Aspire: a 2007 Sport Yacht, a 2016, a 2019 475 Sport Yacht and a 2024. A 2019 475 is on the market with us now, in Key Largo.
