About Jongert
Jan Jongert senior started the yard at Medemblik in 1953 building small motor boats, moved it to Wieringerwerf, and turned it into one of the Dutch names for big, heavily built cruising yachts, mostly from 20 to 50 meters and mostly in steel or aluminum, many of the later ones drawn by Tony Castro. The family sold its majority stake in 2008, the VEKA Group took the yard on in 2009 after the first bankruptcy, and a second bankruptcy followed in 2015. Since then the name has changed hands more than once. The 47 meter Project Revolution, built at the VEKA yard and delivered in 2025, was the first yacht launched under the Jongert brand since the 39 meter Smooth Operator in 2010, and in 2026 the Dutch investor Hans Kortlevers bought the brand with plans for a 55 meter ketch and a motor catamaran.
For a buyer that history matters more than the marketing does. No warranty survives two bankruptcies: a Jongert from the 1990s or 2000s is supported by its original equipment suppliers, by Dutch refit yards and by the specialists who have looked after the fleet, not by a builder's guarantee, and the company trading under the name today is not the company that built your boat. What you get in return is a genuinely well built hull. Steel and aluminum Dutch yachts of this generation reward a proper survey: ultrasonic thickness readings on a steel hull, a close look at the tank tops and the bilge areas, and the yacht's own maintenance file. These are European boats through and through, wired 230 or 400 volt at 50 hertz, usually certified for commercial or charter use under a European flag, so before an American owner brings one home, price the flagging, the survey to United States requirements and the import duty, and get confirmation in writing that duty has been paid if the boat is already here.
