Marlago began in 1994 as a division of Jefferson Yachts, the Indiana company Leon Shaw founded in 1982, and the boats have been built at Jeffersonville, Indiana by the family firm Kentuckiana Yacht Sales, which has been in the business since 1960. The line is short and it has stayed short: the FS35 cuddy from 1994, the FS31 from 1996, a reworked FS35 in 2002 that was among the first center consoles with the anchor deployed through the bow, an Open version from 2005, and the 37SS from 2015. The hull is the constant, a 24 degree deep vee with a stepped transom and a pad keel, which is why these boats run in the 45 to 60 mph range on two engines when most of the market needs three or four.

The name confuses people, so be clear about what you are looking at. A Jefferson motor yacht is a Taiwan built import from the Hershine yard; a Jefferson Marlago or Marlago center console is built in Indiana, and they are not the same product or the same market. On a used one, the hull is the reason to buy and it holds up well, so spend the survey on what bolts to it: the stepped transom and engine bracket area, the fuel tank and its foam bed, deck core around the console and hardtop legs, and the rigging tubes. These are twin engine boats by design, so a repower is a real number and a tired pair of engines should move the price. The company is still trading from the same address and still building the 35SS and 37SS, which means a parts call is answered by the people who built the boat, a rare thing in this part of the market.
