About McConaghy Boats
John McConaghy started in 1967 building skiffs, Tornado and A-class catamarans and moths. In the 1970s the yard was among the first anywhere to use aerospace pre-preg carbon, and by the late 1980s was combining it with Nomex honeycomb to build 70-foot-plus racing yachts. America's Cup boats, super maxis, Volvo 70s and Olympic classes have all come out of it.
A yard in Zhuhai opened in 2006 and now runs to 10,000 square metres, and the first McConaghy cruising catamaran launched in February 2018. That racing pedigree is exactly what a buyer is getting: these are light, stiff, carbon-built boats that sail and motor like nothing built to a production budget - and they want a surveyor who understands advanced composite rather than one who works on glass.
