Reef Runner is a small Miami area builder, based on Opa Locka Boulevard in Opa-locka, Florida, registered in business in May 2016 and run by its owner Donna Milo, who spent 37 years as a custom home builder before this. The work that made the company was commercial: a Miami marine contracting firm wanted skiffs that could survive being used as push boats in the marine construction trade, and once those existed a line of pleasure boats built on the same principles followed. Everything is done in house by a small team of mold makers, laminators, riggers and finishers rather than farmed out.

The boats are hand laid fiberglass deep vee center consoles on a reinforced stringer system, semi custom in the sense that a buyer specifies the layout rather than picking from a brochure. The line has grown from small skiffs in the 14 to 23 foot range to the 230, 280 and 340 Open models on offer today. For a used buyer the appeal is a heavy, simply built local boat at a price well below the national brands, and the catch is that there are very few of them, so there is no price book and no dealer network: value one on condition, rigging and engines, and expect resale to be slow and local. The company is still trading, which means parts and repairs can go back to the people who built the boat, and on a builder this small that is worth confirming is still true on the day you buy.
