About Vision

Boats listed simply as Vision are almost always Vision Marine Technologies, which started in 1995 as the Canadian Electric Boating Company and still builds at Boisbriand, Quebec, under co founder Alexandre Mongeon. The company floated on NASDAQ as VMAR and now sells two things: its own small electric boats, the Volt 180, the Fantail 217 and the V17, V24 and V30 pontoons, and the E-Motion high voltage powertrain it supplies to other builders. That second business explains the odd boat in the listings. The Sterk 31e is a German built Sterk Yachts hull, a twin stepped deep vee in composite, carrying two Vision E-Motion 180E outboards, so a boat sold under the Vision name is not always a Vision hull. Ask which it is before you compare prices.

For an American buyer this is an easier import than most. Vision owns Nautical Ventures, the Florida retail and service chain, so sales, service and sea trials happen locally rather than across an ocean, which is rare for a foreign built brand at this size. The V30 charges from 120 volt 30 amp or 240 volt 50 amp shore power, so it is wired for North American docks rather than a European 50 hertz supply. What deserves real attention on a used one is the battery pack: its age, its cycle count, what is left of its warranty and who is authorized to touch a high voltage marine system near you. On an electric boat the pack is most of the value, so the pack paperwork matters more than the engine hours would on a diesel. Ask for the customs entry on any boat brought in privately rather than through the dealer network.
